Famara is one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever find. The four kilometre long beach stretches out under the dramatic 'El Ricso' cliffs. The beach is west facing and therefore enjoys some amazing sunsets. As the last light of day turns orange the cliffs start to glow and radiate back the warmth of the day.

Lanzarote being a volcanic island out in the Atlantic Ocean can pick up surfable waves very easily. The beginner surfer will be able to enjoy the waves almost every single day of the year. Famara beach is sand bottomed and the waves are perfect for the beginner to intermediatte surfer.

Surfing the waves

Surfalbe peaks from all along Famara beach. If one peak gets busy then you can easily find another. Depending on the swell direction waves will break larger at one part of the beach. Normally the larger waves are found towards the middle of the beach. Depending on your experience and preference you can pick a spot with the waves you are most comfortable and surf there.

Quality of the waves

When the conditions are right Famara beach produces amazing surf. Beautiful peaks rise out of the deep water and peel to the left and right. Most of the waves are easy to surf. In the summer months the surf is normally smaller than those found in winter. Winter time is when storms track along the gulf stream from Florida up past the west coast of Scotalnd. These storms produce larger and more powerful waves that are ranked amongst the best in Europe and even the world. Famara beach will still produce great waves but many other surf spots become available

If you are staying in the town of Famara and want to hire surfboards from Zoo Park then in only a few minutes walk you will find yourself stood in front of some great waves. Your family and friends can relax in the sun or swim in the sea whilst you paddle out a little further and enjoy the surf. When you day is complete it is another short walk to get your boards back to the shop and enjoy a sunset drink or two.
